Making meaning out of personal experience- a Trainee Counselling Psychologist's journey

Image
Hello everyone and welcome to our next blog entry. Today we are hearing from Ave Kotze , Trainee Counselling Psychologist . Ave writes about her journey and the very many moments she questioned herself and her life choices, wondering if she was pursuing the right path. She also shares her personal experiences of being a Trainee in a country previously unknown to her, and a place where she had to learn and adapt to ways of working and learning she was unfamiliar with. Every trainee has walked a path to understand themselves better, and this reflects in their clinical work and beyond. Our trainees are the next generation of Psychologists, bringing with them their experiences, hopes and also their fears. The beauty of becoming a Psychologist is that there is always space for all those experiences, hopes and fears. As each of us learn more about ourselves, we become better able to recognise and support our clients, because of our humanity. We are always in a process of becoming, growing, and changing, and this brings richness and depth to our work as Psychologists. Over the next few months we hope to share more trainee journeys, to show the experiences that propelled them onto becoming Trainees, and also the range of skill they bring to the field as Practitioner Psychologists. Please join us in welcoming our blog writer, Jordan Behnam , Trainee Counselling Psychologist, currently in his final year of study at City University in London. ...
